Finishing Information

New England Stitchery is a full service needlepoint store offering custom finishing services for all types of projects.  We work with customers from start to finish throughout this process.

Getting Started:
Email us at newenglandstitchery@gmail.com and we’ll send you our Finishing Form to complete with the details of your project and finishing preferences.

If you are shipping your canvas, please place it inside a waterproof or zip-top bag for protection before packaging.

Once your project arrives, we will contact you to confirm receipt and reach out if we need any additional information before sending it to our finisher.

Pillow Finishing:
Before submitting a canvas for pillow finishing, please stitch one additional row of tent stitches around the entire design area.

Once we receive your canvas, we’ll contact you to discuss the fun part—the details! We’ll help you choose your fabric, pillow style, and any other finishing touches.

We have fabric samples available in the shop, or you are welcome to provide your own fabric. Supplying your own fabric can also help reduce the overall finishing cost.

After we finalize your selections, we’ll provide pricing for your approval before proceeding.

Estimated turnaround: approximately 4–5 weeks.

We love making our pillows special and are always looking for fun, distinctive details that make each piece feel truly custom. Visit our Gallery to see some of our favorite finished projects for inspiration.

Ornaments and Signs:
For ornaments, please indicate your preferred:
• Fabric backing color
• Twist color(s) — up to three colors

If our finisher has any questions about color matching, we’ll contact you to discuss the best alternatives. And don’t worry if you hear from us during the process—it usually means your project is moving along in the finishing queue!

Stockings and Cuffs:
For stockings, please include your color preferences for:
• Exterior and welt fabric — velvet is what our finisher has and it is the traditional choice
• Interior lining — silk is the traditional choice
• Toe direction for cuff stocking finishing

Most stockings are traditionally finished with a self welt, but twist is also an option.

Stocking cuffs follow the same general finishing guidelines.

Finishing timelines vary by project and season and may sometimes exceed six months. Stockings typically have a separate seasonal deadline, so please contact us for the current stocking submission date.

We strongly encourage submitting holiday finishing as early as possible.

Self-Finishing Acrylic Inserts:
At this time, we offer finishing for self-finishing acrylic pieces to local customers who are able to drop off the acrylic item along with their stitched canvas.

Although acrylic pieces may be labeled as a particular size, the actual interior dimensions can vary. Having the acrylic piece in hand allows our finisher to measure it precisely and ensure the best possible fit for your stitched canvas.

Other Finishing Options:
Along with the finishing options listed above, we also offer finishing for eyeglass cases, clutches, stand-ups, rocking chairs, foot stools, coasters, bags, paper weights.  The possibilities are endless.

A Few Final Notes:
Finishing is a handmade process, and each piece is individually created for you. Turnaround times are estimates and may vary depending on the project, materials, season, and our finisher’s schedule.

If you have questions or aren’t quite sure what finishing option you want, please reach out—we’re happy to help you decide.

We can’t wait to see what you’ve stitched!
